We have all had them. Those moments we relive again and again. Things from our past that either cheer us or haunt us. Moments that have made us who we are. We may hold on to promises God has made and wonder when they will be fulfilled, or live on that time we were sure God spoke and filled us with His Spirit.

In Matthew 16 Jesus is a sensation. He has started His ministry and is causing a stir. The people are talking about Him. Aware of the whispers He asks his disciple who people say He is.

Matthew 16:14 ‘Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets’

What I find fascinating is that the Jewish people would rather believe in a reincarnated prophet than the incarnate God. The promised Messiah was before them and they missed it by looking back to explain the one who was calling them forward.

I don’t know whether your past has been good or bad, probably a bit of both. However it has been don’t let it make you miss the God who is before you now, incarnate through Jesus and calling you on to a glorious future in Him.
