To celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary Marilyn and I returned to one of our favourite places on this planet. To us it is a place where time slows almost to a stop. It is a place where we find ourselves able to unwind, where we find time to be still. As we slow down there is time to enjoy the beauty of God’s wonderful creation in many ways. In our Key Largo hideaway these include frequent swims in clear warm water, boat and kayak trips through hidden mangrove trails, observing the marine wildlife, and excellent food – especially frequent portions of Key Lime Pie. There are amazing sunsets, and clear nights in which it seems as if every star in the Universe is visible. And then there is each other.

Key Largo – Bay side

I am so grateful to God for His gift to us of the eleven days we spent together this May in Key Largo. I am grateful for all that God showed us during this time when time became largely irrelevant, until the day came to pack and return home to the much cooler and wetter climate of the UK. I am grateful that God brought us together from the time of our first meeting in 1973 through a long distance courtship while I was serving at sea, to marriage in 1979, followed by the blessing of five children, three daughters-in-law and eight grandchildren (to date).

How blessed we are, yet how infrequently we stop time to consider the blessings God has poured out on us, or even pass a little thanks His way. Our Key Largo trip gave us many opportunities to do both. Sometimes it is good to stop time so that we can pause busy lives, reflect, observe, give blessings to others, receive blessings in return. What do I see when I stop? I see glimpses of God’s fingerprints all over his world in nature and in people, and often in the strangest of places. Would you believe that one of the greatest blessings of our time in Key Largo came from a young shop assistant in Publix? Second to that was an equally young waitress in The Lazy Lobster who delighted us with her manner. After that come the sunsets, the swims, the beauty of where we were staying, etc. It is amazing what we discover when time stops.

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. (Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV)
