The Sheaf Royal sailed from Beaumont, Texas on Monday 21 January 1974 bound for Nakhodka in the Soviet Far East …
Satan does not differentiate when he comes to rob and steal and destroy, but he does seem to enjoy hitting high profile targets such as church leaders. Many of us are soft targets and easily defeated yet God has made everything we need to become hard or harder targets freely available. The only real demand He makes of us is our time. Because it takes time to put on armour.
And that’s the real rub isn’t it? Things not turning out how we expect. The world would be a much better place if things turned out that way I expected all the time. A much better place… for me at least.
Sin is crouching at the door. Why does something crouch? In order to pounce! The suggestion is that sin is not some inactive thing that we can fall into, but something that desires to possess us, that is waiting for us to make any mistake that it can take advantage of, including walking past ignorant of it.
Duncan thought about this for a few minutes and then decided to go for it! Why not? He had God’s promise of a light to guide him! Duncan opened the door and stepped out into the pitch black, at which point his lantern began to glow. But there seemed to be something wrong with it – it’s light did not cast very far around Duncan at all – in fact he could only see a few steps ahead at a time. “Are you sure God?” Duncan asked “You’re on the right path Dunc just keeping walking forwards.”
Are we so different? We may not be match fixers but we all have our short cuts. Pornography can be a short cut for sex – it’s not as satisfying, or so I’m told! The lottery is a short cut to riches – if you’re lucky! Beer is a short cut to happiness and a good time. Facebook a short cut for friendship?! But do short cuts satisfy, or ultimately, do we just get lost?
